In practice, the idea to outsource piping drafting usually comes up as soon as your own team gets stuck: a peak in the drawing office, a deadline that can no longer move, or a vacancy for a piping drafter that has been open for months. We solve that with our large, variable team, which is ready to go and scales per project, exactly as much as the project requires.
When it is urgent we add extra people straight away, so you do not have to recruit or onboard anyone yourself.
We work fully remotely, in our own environment and with our own licences, so you do not need to set anything up on your side. Everyone on our team has more than ten years of CAD experience, and the core of our team brings around twenty-five years of combined drawing office experience. For piping drafting, we deliver piping diagrams, isometrics and connection details with very few errors, even when the schedule is under pressure.

Piping drafting down to drawing level
By outsourcing piping drafting, we mean the complete package a piping project needs, from the first line diagram to the last isometric. We draw piping diagrams, isometrics, connection details and support drawings, and work them out as 2D drafting or, where needed, as 3D models. Existing installations that need to be mapped again are recorded in as-built drawings, and we process revisions to earlier work without you having to explain the whole project all over again. We regularly receive material from Firefly, the client with whom we have now completed more than twenty projects and hundreds of drawings, that has been modified on site while the drawings no longer match.
A smart component with a live material schedule: a change to one part is reflected in the schedule straight away.
Our team then works it out for itself rather than calling you about every uncertainty, and delivers a clean, legible result. With high-volume, repetitive work, such as a series of similar pipe routes with different dimensions each time, we achieve the biggest time savings: we set up the layout once and then repeat it without redrawing everything.
Our drafting team keeps going until the set is complete, with interim deliveries so you can already review the work before the last part is ready. If you are facing a peak where your own team simply has too few hours, you still get a complete, consistent set of drawings from us without hiring a new drafter. That is exactly why companies with technical drafting needs, from engineering firms to manufacturers, choose our approach when their own drawing office is completely full.
Model in Revit
Built from the documents you supply, consistently to your standard.
Drawings from the model
Floor plans, sections, elevations, details and overviews.
As-built and revisions
Updating existing sets and dossiers that have fallen behind.
Parametric families
Smart components with a material schedule that updates with them.
3D modelling
In Rhino or Inventor, converted to the format your supply chain uses.
Template clean-up
Cleaning up or rebuilding existing families and templates.
Send us your set or model and we will tell you what we can deliver from it.
Three projects under way, and the modelling for the fourth is stalling.
Manufacturers
The product line needs to become smart components, but nobody in-house can be freed up.
Contractors
The as-built dossier needs updating while the drawing office has already moved on to the next job.
Engineering firms
A peak in drafting work that your own team cannot absorb.
For piping drafting we mainly work in Revit, AutoCAD and Rhino, supplemented by Inventor and Grasshopper where a project calls for it, and to a limited extent Dynamo and Vault. We always use the latest versions of these packages, so files fit into your environment without conversion issues. We accept and deliver DXF, DWG, Revit formats or STEP, and in practice almost any common CAD format a piping project involves. If a contractor or engineering firm works in AutoCAD and similar components keep having to go on the drawing, we build parametric Revit families for them where possible: smart components that adapt to a new size or situation without our drafters having to redraw them.
The material schedule updates automatically, so if a component changes, the list of materials changes with it without manual updating. If an existing set of families or templates has become cluttered after years of use, we assess whether cleaning it up is quicker than rebuilding everything, or whether a new setup will pay off more in the end. That depends on how far the existing set has drifted from a workable structure. We usually send files back and forth by email, and on larger, long-running projects we use software you log in to so you can follow the progress of the piping drafting.
That way you stay connected to your own systems and formats, while we carry out the drafting with our own licences and in our own environment. We roll out new software versions straight away, so file compatibility with your side is never compromised.
Our own office with our own licences: nothing needs to be set up or released on your side.
No ongoing payroll costs and no idle staff once the peak is over. If one of our people is off sick or on holiday, we replace them and the work simply carries on.
We go through the work and receive the details and drawing conventions.

Delivery in stages
A first part comes back to you, you review it and we collect your feedback.
04
Check-ins at your pace
Every two days when it is urgent, weekly when things are calmer.
Every piping project has its own CAD standards, and we do not set those ourselves. Our drafting team follows the layer structure, layer names and drawing conventions you provide, so the result fits straight into your existing project folder and nobody has to convert drawings afterwards. We start with a conversation in which you share the details and usually also supply existing drawings that are due for revision. From then on we deliver in stages, gather feedback and make adjustments before moving on to the next part. Our check-in rhythm varies by client: with one we touch base briefly every two days, with another a weekly meeting is enough, depending on how fast the project needs to move. Contact runs via email, phone and meetings, and where it is more practical we come to you or you come to us.
Barry, our project manager, is usually our first point of contact for a new piping drafting request, after which team leader Sam, who has more than fifteen years of background in architecture, takes over the technical side and directs the content of the drawings. That way you keep one fixed point of contact rather than a different contact person for each drawing. Because your standard remains leading, we keep the quality of the piping drafting consistent, even when several of our drafters are working on the same set at once. If you change drawing conventions halfway through a project, we implement that change at the next check-in, so the rest of the set follows it straight away.
Your fixed points of contact
Project manager Barry leads the first conversation, team leader Sam keeps a firm grip on the technical side
You never have to explain the situation all over again. Getting acquainted takes a short fifteen-minute call.
What we ultimately deliver in the set depends on what we agree, but for piping drafting it usually includes piping diagrams, isometrics, connection details and, where relevant, a material schedule that has grown automatically with the drawings. We deliver the set in stages, so you do not have to check everything in one go at the end of the project, but can already steer along the way.
Step 1
Drafter
Creates the model and the drawings.
Step 2
Second team member
Checks the work for structure and dimensions.
Step 3
Sam
Team leader: reviews the technical side of the set.
Final check
Barry
Project manager: gives it a final review before delivery.
Before a drawing leaves our hands, it goes through at least three review layers: a drafter draws, a second team member checks that work, Sam then reviews it as team leader, and Barry carries out the final check as project manager.

As a result, we keep the number of errors minimal in practice, even with a large, rushed set of piping drawings. For example, when a deadline could not slip, we worked through evenings and weekends, with days of fourteen to fifteen hours, to get the set complete on time. The intellectual property of our work belongs to you, and on request we are open to a non-disclosure agreement, even though nobody has asked for one yet. After delivery you can use the set straight away in your own process, whether that is a permit application, a construction phase or a revision round on site.
We respond to a new piping drafting request within 1 to 2 working days, after which we go through the project and the required deliverables in a conversation. We also remain available after delivery, should a question about the piping drawings still come up in the next stage.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about outsourcing piping drafting
Outsourcing piping drafting means we draw piping diagrams, isometrics, connection details and support drawings for you. We do that fully remotely, in our own environment and with our own licences. Our large, variable team scales with the volume of each project. Everyone on our team has more than ten years of CAD experience. We follow the CAD standards you provide, not a standard of our own. We deliver in stages, with feedback rounds along the way. That way you stay in control without hiring an extra drafter internally. A first conversation quickly shows whether our approach suits the peak you are dealing with now.
Within piping drafting we handle piping diagrams, isometrics, connection details, support drawings and as-built drawings. We also revise existing drawings, especially when someone has modified an installation on site without updating the drawings. We draw in 2D and, where useful, in 3D. For recurring components, such as valves that come in several sizes, we build a parametric Revit family so our drafters do not have to redraw that component every time.
The material schedule updates automatically with the drawing. We deliver in DXF, DWG, Revit formats, STEP or another common CAD format, depending on what you use. Every drawing goes through at least three review layers with us before it leaves our hands. In a first conversation we determine which drawing types are relevant to the project.
Contact during an ongoing piping drafting project runs via email, phone and meetings, with Barry, our project manager, as your fixed first point of contact. We agree the check-in rhythm with each client, from a brief touchpoint every two days to a weekly meeting. For simple, standalone drafting we send files back and forth by email. On larger projects we use software you log in to so you can follow our progress.
Where it is more practical, we come to you or you visit our office. By delivering in stages, we take feedback on board early rather than only at the end. That way you stay connected without having to call every day. In a first conversation we decide which contact rhythm suits the project.
We mainly work in Revit, AutoCAD and Rhino, supplemented by Inventor and Grasshopper, and to a limited extent Dynamo and Vault. We always use the latest versions. We deliver our files in DXF, DWG, Revit formats, STEP and almost any other common CAD format. If you use AutoCAD but smart, parametric components would be useful, we build a family for them in Revit. If an existing family library is cluttered, we assess whether cleaning it up is quicker than building a new setup. We draw in our own environment with our own licences, not in yours. Our input and delivery do, however, match the format you use. In a conversation beforehand, we map out which software the project needs.
If a piping drafting deadline comes under pressure, we first scale up with extra drafters from our large, variable team. For an earlier deadline that could not slip, we worked through evenings and weekends, with days of fourteen to fifteen hours. We even kept working during the planned holiday of Sam, our team leader, to meet the schedule at the time. We only bill pure working hours, so a short break does not count.
If a drafter is ill or drops out, we replace them internally so the work carries on. You do not have to arrange anything for this yourself. We respond to a new, urgent request within 1 to 2 working days. That way we keep a tight piping drafting schedule achievable without compromising on quality.
A short first assignment for piping drafting is possible with us and regularly serves as an introduction. It lets you judge our speed and accuracy before we start a larger project. We do not work with prepaid hour bundles or a monthly hour subscription; each assignment stands on its own. We invoice on an hourly basis or at a fixed project price, which we decide together.
We only charge for pure working hours, so time outside the drafting does not count. The intellectual property of the delivered work belongs to you. On request we can discuss a non-disclosure agreement, even though nobody has asked for one yet. A first conversation is our usual starting point to decide what a suitable first assignment would be.
Outsourcing piping drafting suits engineering firms, architectural practices, contractors and manufacturers that work with piping systems. The trigger is almost always capacity: too little time, too few drafters, or a peak your own team cannot handle. The people at the table are usually managers, team leaders or owners who run the drawing office. Firefly is our client to date, with more than twenty projects and hundreds of drawings.
The volume varies widely, from a single standalone piping diagram to an ongoing series of drawings over several months. We scale with that using our large, variable team, with as many drafters as needed. A temporary vacancy that cannot be filled is also a common reason to outsource this work to us. A conversation beforehand shows whether your situation is a good fit.
The technical quality of our piping drafting is the responsibility of team leader Sam, who has more than fifteen years of background in architecture. He previously worked in Iran for seven years and ran his own design firm in the Netherlands. Every drawing goes through at least three review layers with us: a drafter draws, a second team member checks, and Sam then reviews it as team leader. Barry then carries out a final check as project manager before we send a drawing to you.
As a result, we keep the number of errors minimal in practice, even with larger sets. Barry is usually our first point of contact for a new request, after which Sam takes over the technical side. That way you always deal with the same fixed contact person. In a first conversation we explain how we set up the review process.
